BALAOAN IS BEST LGU IMPLEMENTER OF SWM IN PUBLIC MARKET IN REGION I

LGU Balaoan received a Plaque of Recognition from the DENR as the Best Implementer of Solid Waste Management (SWM) in Public Market in Region-I for the Municipality Category during the awarding ceremonies held last June 27, 2017 at Hotel Ariana, Bauang, La Union.

The Balaoan Public Market has a Waste Water Treatment Facility where waste water is treated before discharge to the drainage canal. This prevents pollution of the water in canals. All market stalls maintain two (2) segregated garbage bins in their stalls, one (1) for nabubulok and one (1) for di-nabubulok. At the end of the day, stall owners dispose their pile of garbage into the covered large garbage bins (4 units Trailer Type Bins) situated in one corner of the public market. The trailer type bins containing segregated waste will then be hauled by the garbage truck to the sanitary landfill for segregation before its final disposal to the landfill. Furthermore, with the help of the Market Vendors Association, cleanliness in the public market is maintained through regular clean-up activities.
